About Lisa
Lisa Hartman has trained and tamed everything from pampered pooches to highly reactive dogs from the streets. She has been a lifelong animal lover, pet owner, and animal advocate. Not just an instinctual dog trainer, Lisa has a solid education in animal behavior (learning theory, classical and operant conditioning), and continues her education today. She keeps her practice focused on companion dogs, and the problems conflicting owners and their pets.
In 2004 Lisa was tapped to be the Director of Behavior and Dog Training for the Humane Society of Greater Miami, boasting the lowest rate of returned animals during her tenure. During that time Lisa was also asked to write a pet column for the Biscayne Times (“Pawsitively Pets”), which she still writes today. Her popular column is referenced by Veterinarians, advocacy groups, pet owners and training facilities around the country and in the UK. Lisa has also been the trainer for The Responsible Dog Owners of Miami Beach, The Riverwalk Trust, and filled in as a dog trainer for the Humane Society of Broward County, as well as fostering Dalmatians for Dalmatian Rescue. She has also run a very successful dog training practice for the past five years (www.pawsitivelypetsonline.com), and is the “pet blogger” at PlumTV.com. Missing home, she is THRILLED to be back in NY!
Currently Lisa has two dogs, rescued from horrendous beginnings. Jay-J, a puppy mill Dalmatian with serious behavior and skin problems she adopted from a Connecticut animal control where he had been living, kenneled almost his entire life. In 2008 she adopted Saffron Monsoon from a Chinese Crested rescue. “Saffy” was left crated and neglected in a home with too many animals to care for (hoarder), and was a “spinner”. Today they are both working as models, with Jay-J gracing the cover of pet and dog training magazines. But most importantly, they are Lisa’s best friends.
